What a pain in the @$$!
I month or so ago....at the suggestion of fellow XMG'ers for my new PC that I just built (see blog..) I went with an ALL IN WONDER 9200 Video Card. Long story short it was pretty sweet. Worked beautifully on my Win XP Pro and handled all my needs especially a TV tuner (now my only source of TV in my Yankees Themed Study).
Then last week I bought Windows Media Center Edition 2005 (MCE'05) because of all of its sweet features that it adds to XP Pro. Loaded my ATI software up, and then nothing. No my TV on the PC.
Well, after 2 help tickets to ATI (the 1st one their response with the typical/ generic scripting bullshit for idiots that dont think about loading that round disc object that might just go into your PC's disc drive! After sending a reply requesting assistance from a human, I finally go my answer. They advised me that my card was not comtpatible with MCE. Only AIW series 9500 and up work with MCE'05. Damn all the luck!
So I check out my reciept from Wally World where I paid too much for the 9200 anyway...and saw it was dated 6/28. (Can my luck get any worse!) So...after a call to wally world and pleading my case to the ASM he agreed to give me a return! (finally some luck, right?)
So got my $$ back and next day bought the AIW 2006 card. Sweet features : 256MB, compatible 8X AGP for my board, and most of all - (Right on the box...) DESIGNED FOR WINDOWS XP MCE.
So threw some more ca$h on top of the $$ from my return and popped it on home.
Installed it and.........still no TV. So I figured since I spent a lot of time trying to get the 9200 to work b4 ATI told me the deal by installing and uninstalling different versions of ATI drivers and whatnot...I decided to do a reformat.
Did that and still........nothing! Damn ATI Software still will not get my tuner to load up.
EXCEPT - the MCE software DOES.
The MCE is okay...but I kind of got used to the ATI programs, and they seem to have run faster and more smoothly. Not only this, but my new purchase qualified me to get a free Remote Wonder set, only had to pay S&H just under $10 bucks. So I have already paid for this order, so now I have to get the software working. My purchase also hooks me up with 1/2 off an M$ MCE Symphony Infinity Remote set up for 30 bucks which is like 1/2 off.. not bad....
I wonder if the Windows MCE progamming does not let this thing run how it should...I dont know... but I am slighly preterbed..
So now I am waiting on a reponse from ATI on this new help ticket that I had to submit......
To be continued.......
